WELCOME!
If you’re here, you are an alchemist. Perhaps you are a birth worker, a hungry mother with a young child, or simply someone who loves to cook and is searching for their calling in life.
I designed this course with you in mind – to support those looking to support others, to inspire other women to start postpartum businesses, to remind us how to feed ourselves, and how to feed each other.
YOU HAVE A HUNGER
Whether you are pregnant, newly postpartum, a doula or a midwife, a soon-to-be-grandmother, a father, a sister or a friend, learning about postpartum food alters and shapes our cooking for years to come – not to mention our sense of well being, and our ability to show up powerfully for those that we love.
Utilizing modern science as well as traditional staples from our global ancestry, postpartum comfort food is the perfect antidote to a modern lifestyle.
YOU HAVE A GIFT
I see a deep hunger for meaningful service in the world. We want to know that our lives have purpose, and that our time and energy will be well spent, whether we are raising children or supporting others.
Today, postpartum mothers need more support than at any other time in their life. Modernity has robbed them of meaningful rite-of-passage rituals, leaving women isolated, confused and depleted during what is arguably the most important and critical phase of her life: postpartum.
YOU REMEMBER
Meanwhile traditional cultures all around the world pamper the mother after birth, to allow her to rest, to feed her nourishing broths, stews, soups and milks and replenish her vital life force. Mothers are massaged, oiled, steamed, warmed, lightly roasted and gently poached back to wellness.
Traditional cultures know that when we take care of the mother, we take care of the entire community.
When we feed mothers, we feed the future. The simple act of bringing a new mother a bowl of soup is an act that ripples across generations and through communities. Showing up for mothers in their first forty days is one of the greatest acts of service available.
But first, we must learn how and what they need most from us…
(hint: it’s not what we’ve been taught!)
NOW IS YOUR TIME
We need you! Mothers all around the world need support and nourishment, and they are ready to receive it. I created the newly expanded Postpartum Kitchen Online Apprenticeship to equip you with exactly what you need to be able to feed and care for postpartum women worldwide.

What’s inside
Module 1
As you’ll see, postpartum is a very under-served but deeply important time in a woman’s life, and it needs far more care and attention than it currently receives in our society.
In this module we explore the clinical and energetic definition of postpartum, including the three phases of postpartum, matrescence, and the ways we can reframe this special time.
Module 2
In this module we discuss all things postnatal depletion and repletion. How does depletion occur, and what can we do to prevent or reverse it? We also explore Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts of yin and yang and how they relate to pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Module 3
In this module we explore the three principles or cornerstones of healing, and hone in on warmth as a tool for recovery. We discuss mother roasting, filling the mother cup, and the subtle differences between the cocoon, the nest and the foundation. We also touch on partner roles and dynamics during postpartum.
… and more!

Yes! Even if you've been through postpartum multiple times, it's especially important for you to prioritize the repletion of your nutrient stores. If depletion continues over subsequent pregnancies and into postpartum, your future health and wellbeing may be at risk.

"Sophie is a guiding light in the maternal paradigm that is nourishing new mothers. Her knowledge and compassion for passing on the key principles of postpartum healing, and teaching ways to implement these practices into community is why this apprenticeship was so appealing to me. As a postpartum doula, I have renewed my commitment to servicing families during the 4th trimester, while bringing medicinal food to the forefront.” – Rebecca
Her dedication to her dharma as a support and nourisher for mothers and beyond is apparent in her passion filled classes embodying a wide range of wisdom. As a long time healing foods chef myself, I felt my own fire reignite inside at the importance of this work. It is true, cooking is ritual and our American culture has much to learn about taking care of all mothers who birth life into this world. I appreciate Sophie being a pioneer in this realm and know I am richer for taking her course. Thank you Sophie! – Kristin

“The Postpartum Kitchen course has become a turning point for me. After struggling for years with depletion and exhaustion following the births of my daughters, and knowing intuitively that it was partially caused by the lack of rest and nourishment that I (and the majority of other women in the US) experienced postpartum, I am so grateful that I came across Sophie’s work and was able to learn from her. The wisdom and passion Sophie shares in this course helped me move forward in my own healing and helped illuminate a clearer picture of how I can use my story and the knowledge I have gained about postpartum nutrition and care into something that will serve the women in my community.”
– Megan
"Sophie’s class gave me hope for women being supported and held as they are born into motherhood. This class was so much more than a class on amazing food, although it was that too, but on the deep importance of mothering the mother and on nourishing women from the inside out so that they can be empowered while they raise this planet’s future.”
– Krista
“This is not a conventional class. Everything from the way it’s presented, to the knowledge shared and the heart being poured into is uniquely beautiful. It was not what I expected, it was so much more colorful and vibrant and full of ancient wisdom. Sophie is weaving it all together into a wonderfully sparkling tapestry, combining old traditions with modern needs. At the end you feel how your cup has been filled as much as your recipe repertoire. It was a blessing to take part in it!”
– Astrid
"What a special experience the apprenticeship has been! I now feel that mothers dedicated to their healing is the highest act of love for their children, community and themselves. Sophie holds a container honoring the earth and ancient wisdom, while educating on nutrition in an incredibly engaging and thoughtful way. I can honestly say I left every session inspired and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to take part!”
– Sara
“Sophie teaches from the heart because she draws from her personal experience and that’s what makes this course so easy to learn from. When you have someone so incredibly passionate about helping the sisterhood, you feel inspired to also pay it forward. She simplifies centuries of wisdom, theory and practice from around the world into eight modules and provides pre-reading material, recipes and homework to help you understand yourself, the theory and get you to practice.
If your heart has a calling to help women feel whole again after their rollercoaster ride called motherhood, make this course as part of your journey.”
